The lost frame

Friday, 2 May, 2025

I went to Paris for a weekend in December. Hoped to get some snow as I’ve never seen Paris in snow before, but ”unfortunately” we had 13 degrees and the sun out.

I brought both my digital Sony camera and my borrowed analog Canon camera. The Sony I only took about 5 shots with. These ones below.

And for the analog I brought two rolls of film. One fresh Kodak 200 and one 40 year old roll of Kodak 100. I started with analog photography last year and I love the feeling of searching for that one moment to capture with manual focus and really taking the time with it to not waste frames. And on the contrary I feel that I miss some moments where with my Sony I would have relied on great autofocus and burst shots to probably get all the shots. But analog photography has taught me to slow down, frame better in camera, wait for the perfect moment etc. and as with any skill it will take a lot of practice until you master it.

One of the last shots from the trip was taken on the expired Kodak roll. When I took the shot I thought it might be one of the best shots I’ve taken that trip thanks to the two ladies showing such excitement over seeing the Eiffel Tower from the metro. Later when I got the scans back all I had were very dark, unusable images. You could barely see what’s in the frame, I tried editing it a bit but all you can depict in the shot is the Eiffel Tower. Photo below.

Three shots from the expired film roll turned out okay, see below. (On the 2nd and 3rd shot you can see the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Below you’ll see all the other photos I took with the fresh Kodak 200 roll.

The left one above is one of my favourites. The lady in the red coat and a hat with her dog that’s looking into the camera, the man getting ready to pay and the server interacting.

Another favourite to the right above and to the left below. Above, he’s dragging a christmas tree in front of the Eiffel tower. Just some snow missing that would’ve distinguished him better and given an extra christmas feel.

To the left above I like. A man reading in the metro, seen through the humid windows.

The two below I really like. Parisienne

I like this way of sharing my photography better than for example Instagram. Hope to do it again soon.

Best,

J
